One Touch and PUSH

Summary

This document will explain push notifications, that can be enabled when using PhenixID One Touch.

One Touch and PUSH

When setting up and using One Touch, there’s the possibility to use push notifications.
Push notifications should be considered as an add-on to One Touch and it’s not essential for the actual authentication to work.
Authentication will work even if push is not received or used at all, as long as One Touch configuration itself is working correctly and assignments are received.

When push is enabled and used, it should be received on the device.
The service makes use of Apple and Google infrastructure to deliver push notifications to the devices.
It’s important to understand that some of the dependencies in this communication is out of PhenixID’s control. And there are circumstances that may interfere with the push notification.
If there’s anything interrupting this traffic, such as firewall(s), no network service or settings on the device, the notification might not get through.
And also, when it comes to Android, not all suppliers and devices support push notifications.

Basic requirements are that outgoing traffic from PAS is allowed towards the push gateway and devices need to be able to communicate with Apple/Google infrastructure so registration can take place. It also assumes that the device itself is connected to a network with internet connectivity and that it has support for push notifications.
In case any of the requirements are not working correctly, push notification will not be received.
Nevertheless, as mentioned earlier, this will not interfere with the authentication itself.
